Even through the inspection failed, I still was charged $200, and the mechanic even broke the car. The offer of $8,000 is ridiculous, so I went somewhere else and spent only $1,700.
HHQRHH, you brought us a 22 year old work van (with 225,000 miles) in a deplorable completely unsafe condition. You asked us to run your inspection and replace your radiator. After spending hours looking over your vehicle. We told you that we could not in good conscience pass this vehicle. We emailed you a detailed list with pricing about everything that failed inspection. You told us to just do the bare minimum. After telling you the vehicle fails inspection unless all this work was done. You decided not to proceed with the repair. We understand that is your right, but your review is untruthful and does not share the full story. You had a one inch crack in the radiator with a plastic bag stuffed in it. That's why it was leaking coolant. We did nothing to that and didn't proceed further. The two rear tires were completely bald with no tread left. The headlamp assembly was broken, the water pump was leaking. The vehicle had excessive play in the front outer tie rods and drag link, all of which were original to the vehicle and covered in rust. The front wheel bearings needed to be at the very least repacked, possibly even replaced, the rear brakes were metal on metal and the right side passenger i beam pivot bushing was completely torn through. There is no way that all this work was done for $1700 as that covers less than half the cost. We are a very forthright and straight forward shop and would rather be upfront with someone then give a half hearted repair. NY State law says that the inspection fee is charged pass or fail. Which we did. We also told you we were going to charge you an additional hour's labor for completely checking your vehicle from end to end and for storing it an additional two days before you picked up. You agreed with those charges and we shook hands and all moved on with our day. For you to leave a negative review but only share a very bird's eye view of what transpired without providing any context is unfair and outright antagonistic. I'm sure you brought the vehicle to a shop that did exactly as you asked and your vehicle is currently on the road driving in an unsafe condition to yourself as well as other drivers around you. If you'd like to actually have a conversation about your vehicle, please feel free to call the shop at 718-779-3500 and ask for Lawrence the owner.
